So you made up your mind? Going to buy a drone for yourselves. That’s great but before you buy, you should know about certain laws & policies. Giving answer in brief, No! you shouldn’t import a drone to India unless you’re ready to obtain NOC & License from respective authorities. I had to face a lot of problem in the process but do not worry, I’ll help you.
What are the hassles while Importing drone To India?
Talking about the issues you’ll face while importing drone to India are not easy to tackle. No matter how hard you try to import it whether you fake the price or mark it as a toy drone, rules are strict. You’ll need permissions from appropriate authorities.
Hassles which you’ll face are:
- Drone will be confiscated by the customs.
- Certain Fine.
- Legal action against you.
Let me elaborate each and everything for you. When you import the drone from sites like Banggood, AliExpress, etc. Your order needs to pass the custom clearance, when this happens they tend to fail products which work on wireless media like walkie-talkie & drones.
What happens after?
After it fails in clearance, they send legal notice to the recipient of the order. When this happens you will receive a notice from the customs saying that your order has been confiscated by the authorities. In order to free it, you need to have the NOC (No Objection Certificate) & License from Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing. If you do not wish to receive the order you’ll have to pay a fine of ₹ 500 and your order will be sent back to the seller. Also, you will have to do so within 10 days of receiving the notice.
NOTE: Sometimes sellers don’t refund in these scenarios. Be safe and save your money.
